Progress of probe in Kratovo shooting

The Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee keep on investigating shooting and attack on residents of the settlement of Kratovo, Ramenskoye District committed by Igor Zenkov.

As of now the picture of what happened is as follows: on the afternoon of 10 June, Zenkov started shooting at his neighbor and then set his own shed on fire. He also opened fire on a man and woman passing by who tried to help the man to put out the fire. The woman died in hospital. The shooter then killed two more of his neighbors.

Investigators have identified the shooter as Igor Zenkov, 50. Between 1992 and 2014 he worked at the Russian Emergency Ministry as a 5th-class maintenance man at the rescue equipment repair unit of the engineering service. During his service he was sent to flash points but was not involved in battle.

He used some old buns for his attack. Some of them he brought back from his trip to Chechnya, while others he made himself. He had no permission to have any of the guns. Based on the examination of the crime scene and evidence given by witnesses, the investigators believe that the man had a lot of ammunition, hand grenades, smooth-bore guns and a Mauser pistol.

The investigators are now examining the crime scene seizing physical evidence. Zenkov lived with his mother, who has been very ill recently and could not walk, the investigators have reasons to think that she also may be dead. They are going to find it out after the fire has been fully put out.
