The Novosibirsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in reckless homicide of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code after 5 children died in a fire.

According to investigators, the fire happened at about 7 AM on 3 December 2017 in a house in Tsentralnaya Street in the settlement of Stepnoi, Iskitim District, Novosibirsk Region. The 32-year-old owner of the house, three adult guests and 5 children: two girls aged 5 and 7 and three boys aged 7 months, 1 and 3 years were in the house when the fire started.

All of them were asleep at the time. One of the adult guests saw the fire, because he had been wakened by thick smoke. He knocked out a window, called for help and tried to put out the flames. The fire and thick smoke prevented other people from getting inside the house. The children died in the fire, while the adults managed to get out the house. They are now receiving medical aid.

The fire scene is being examined at the moment. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigators have ordered a technical examination. The investigation continues.
