The Head Office of the Investigative Committee continues investigating cases opened against a number of Russian citizens involved with Right Sector, an extremist organization prohibited by the RF Supreme Court. Alexander Valov has been charged with membership in an extremist organization under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the RF Criminal Code. A court has ruled to place him in custody in absentia.

According to investigators Valov supports extremist views, ideas of fascism and nationalism. In 2014 or earlier, he left Russia and headed to Ukraine to join Right Sector. He regularly took part in mass riots staged by the organization, made videos and took photos, as well as spread information about the organization’s activity online propagandizing extremism.

The investigators also have information that at present Valov is taking part in military actions in southeast of Ukraine as member of Azov battalion for reward. Considering this, his actions will be further classified as mercenarism.

Investigators are going to continue identifying and prosecuting members of Right Sector independent of their citizenship.
