The Novosibirsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligence entailing death of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 5 May 2017, the guardianship office of the Iskitim District Administration got a report from a district hospital that a family was in a socially dangerous position and that it was necessary to take adequate measures.

The mother of children died suddenly in August 2017, while their father abused alcohol and did not raise the children.

Social services of Iskitim District were informed of the situation, but failed to protect rights and legal interests of the children or to see that there was a threat to their life and health and the five children died in a fire on 3 December 2017.

Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation continues.
