Three men found guilty of attempted rape of paramedic jailed in Saratov Region

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict three residents of the town of Saratov. They were found guilty of attempted rape under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 3, item “b” of Article 131 of the RF Criminal Code.

On the afternoon of 11 February 2017, a paramedic arrived to a flat in Shelkovichnaya Street in the town of Saratov to help a 41-year-old man complaining about high blood pressure. Besides the said man, there were four more men in the flat.

The court and investigators have found out that after the paramedic entered the flat, the 44-year-old owner of the flat closed the door behind her and said that he wouldn’t let her out. The frightened paramedic went to a bathroom and managed to report the situation to a dispatcher of an ambulance service, who then passed the information to the police. The paramedic had to leave the bathroom when the men started threatening her with violence. Two of the men started trying to rape the woman and threatening to kill her. The men’s actions were broken off by the police who promptly arrived at the scene.

Though the men were denying all the charges, the investigators got necessary evidence in the shortest time. According to the results of one of many forensic examinations run as part of the investigation, the injuries found on the victim’s arm had been caused at the moment of the attempted assault. The investigators conducted more than 30 questionings, 6 seizures and examinations of the crime scene and ordered at least 12 forensic tests.

The investigation was supervised by the Investigative Committee’s Central Office.

The court has sentenced the men to 8 years to be served in a maximum security facility.
