On October 9, 2018, a part of a motorway bridge on the crossroad of streets Mikhaylo and Chesnokovskaya and the railroad of the Trans-Baikal Railway, collapsed. The Amur Region Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched an investigation into an offense under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia (neglect of duty, that is, the non-discharge by a functionary of his duties due to a dishonest and careless attitude to civil service, involved by negligence grievous bodily harm).

According to the investigators, two stores of the motorway bridge on the books of Administration of town Svobodny collapsed when a cargo vehicle was crossing it; the driver was grievously harmed. The man was delivered to a medical facility to receive the required medical treatment.

The preliminary investigation is to assess action or inaction of officials of the Administration of Svobodny who failed to secure safe operation of the bridge, the investigators believe.

The investigation continues.
