In Dagestan, probe launched into collapse of bridge leaving three people injured

The Dagestan Republican Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched a criminal inquiry under Part 1 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of the safety rules during construction works that entailed grievous bodily harm) into a collapse of a road bridge in Buynaksk.

According to preliminary data, on December 25, 2018, at approximately 3 PM, the road bridge under construction in the town of Buynaksk in the Republic of Dagestan collapsed during casting of concrete. Three workers were injured as a result of the accident; one of them suffered a grievous injury. The victims were admitted to hospitals.

The investigators have examined the scene of the accident. A complex of necessary expert examinations has been arranged, including a forensic expertise in order to assess the scale of injuries, and a construction examination in order to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Witnesses and eyewitnesses of the accident are being interrogated. The investigators are seizing design and administrative documents including those from the organization that was performing the reconstruction activities. The investigative activities aimed to gather and prove the evidence are ongoing. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
