The Leningrad Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues the investigation launched in 2011 into the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of a minor); the girl’s body fragments were afterward discovered in a forest in Volosovsky District of Leningrad Region.
The crime was non-obvious and it was not possible to solve it on the hot pursuit; however, investigators of the Leningrad Regional Investigations Directorate continued scrupulously working on the identification of the person who had committed the child’s murder and bringing him to justice. Solving this especially grave offense was a natural result of the continuous work of the analytics team for the investigation of past years crimes led by the Head of Leningrad Regional Investigations Directorate.
During well-planned and professionally organized actions of investigators of the Leningrad Regional Investigations Directorate, forensic specialists of the Main Forensics Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, and police officers of the Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Region Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a 55-year-old man was arrested under suspicion of committing the crime; he admitted his guilt to the full.
According to the investigation, on March 26, 2011, the convict had been in his house in the Volosovo town, together with the 10-year-old girl. The suspect had used the helpless state of the girl to subject her to sexual violence, following which he had strangled her. In order to conceal the crime, he had hidden the girl’s body in the forest located several kilometers from the Izvara settlement and covered it with snow.
At present, investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia are carrying out a set of investigative actions with the participation of the detainee in order to collect and prove evidence under the probe.
