In Rostov-on-Don, suspect of rape of underage girl committed over 12 years ago detained

The Rostov Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has resumed the investigation launched in 2007 under Paragraph E of Part 2 of Article 131 of the Criminal Code of Russia (rape of a knowingly underage person).

According to the investigation, in July 2007, a man had used violence against a 16-year-old girl and raped her on Beregovaya Street of Rostov-on-Don. The perpetrator had left the scene immediately after the crime.

During the preliminary investigation, it had been impossible to identify the person who had committed the crime; therefore, the criminal proceedings had been suspended.

Despite that, investigators and criminal intelligence operative officers continued working on the identification of the person involved in the offense, and that work has brought a success 12 years after the crime was committed.

A 40-year-old Rostov-on-Don citizen has been detained on suspicion of committing the rape. Investigators established that he had previous criminal records, including those related to sexual offenses.

Being interrogated about the circumstances of the offenses, the convict did not admit his guilt. Apart from that, he was identified by the victim as a person who committed violence against her. His involvement is proved by expert conclusions.

At present, investigators are carrying out all the required investigative actions and procedural activities aimed to collect evidence for the probe.
