In Leningrad Region, a probe launched into damaging and destruction of lost military graves

The Leningrad Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe under Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code of Russia (destruction or damaging of military graves, as well as monuments, stelae, obelisks, other memorial structures or objects that perpetuate the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland or its interests, or dedicated to the days of military glory of Russia) upon results of pre-investigative probe and personal meeting of the head of the Department Sergey Sazin with the direction of a search movement and a military historical center.

According to investigation, the workers of Evrika LLC discovered bone remains indicating burial site of Great Patriotic War times during land works in Telman settlement of Tosnensky District of Leningrad Region, however, didn't suspend the works. Having information about the lost burial place of the soldiers of the Red Army who died in the defense of the Fatherland, acting by a group of persons, they continued excavation with the subsequent removal of the soil, which contains the unburied remains. Their actions entailed damaging and destruction of the lost military graves.

The investigative actions, aimed to establish all circumstances, as well as causes and conditions that facilitated committing of the offense, and the investigation of the probe are in progress.
