Verdict pronounced in the criminal case of eight deaths in a fire in Perm Territory

The evidence gathered by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found by court to be sufficient to sentence Dmitry Karaaev. He was found guilty of causing the death of two or more people by negligence (Part 3, Article 109 of the Criminal Code).

The investigation and the court found that in September-October 2019, Karavaev, at the request of his sister, installed a heating boiler at her place of residence, without complying with fire safety requirements. In the process of long-term and intensive use of the heating equipment, the violations made during its installation led to excessive heating of the house walls and their combustion in the night from April 30 to May 01, 2021. As a result of the fire 8 people who lived in the house died, including two minors.

The court sentenced Karavaev to 1.5 years of imprisonment.
