The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation of a criminal case against a resident of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Nikolai Goryunov, who entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement. He is accused of committing crimes provided for by Part 3 of Article 33, Paragraph H of Part 2 of Article 105, Paragraph G of Part 2 of article 105, Part 4 of Article 150, Part 4 of Article 222, Paragraph D of Part 3 of Article 226 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of murder and murder; enticement of a minor into committing a crime; illegal arms trafficking; theft of firearms, with the use of violence that did not endanger life or health).

Since the crime remained unsolved, in 2018, on the instructions of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, based on the results of his personal reception of the victim's wife, the criminal case was transferred to the Main Investigative Department for the organization of further investigation.

According to the investigation, in April-May 2017 Isa Khashiev, a deputy of the Minusinsk District Council of Deputies, acting on the basis of personal animosity, decided to organize the murder of Dmitry Popkov, editor-in-chief of the sociopolitical newspaper "TON-M". Previously, there had been a conflict between them related to their confrontation in the 2016 elections of the head of the district. Khashiev attracted Goryunov to commit the crime, to whom he offered to organize the murder of Popkov for a monetary reward.

Later, Goryunov involved Shestakov, who was underage at the time, in the direct execution of the crime. The latter, on May 24, 2017, armed with a pistol with a silencer given to him by Goryunov, arrived at Popkov's house, proceeded to the bathhouse, where the victim was, and fired at least six shots at him. The victim died on the spot.

Besides Goryunov is also accused of robbery with violence of a carbine from which on April 16, 2020 he and Shestakov killed a local resident in a forest belt in Minusinsk region, firing 5 shots at him in turn.

The investigation collected sufficient evidence, therefore the criminal case against Goryunov was forwarded to the court.

Investigative actions in the criminal case against Khashiev and Shestakov are over, both defendants are completing familiarization with the case materials.
