In Sverdlovsk Oblast, Local Resident Found Guilty of Several Crimes, Including Particularly Serious Ones
The court recognized the evidence collected by the investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Sverdlovsk Oblast sufficient for sentencing an unemployed local resident born in 1973. He was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 30, Paragraphs A, F, I of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder of two or more persons in a generally dangerous way, from molester motives), Article 317 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer), Paragraph D of Part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code (illegal deprivation of freedom, Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code (disorderly conduct), Part 1 of Article 119 of the Criminal Code (threat of murder) and Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code (intentional damage to someone else's property).

The investigators and the court found that on the evening of May 30, 2021, being in a state of alcohol intoxication, the defendant used a false pretext to invite a young man living next door to his apartment located in a multi-storey building on Borodina Street in Yekaterinburg. When the neighbor arrived, the defendant, threatening to use a Vepr-KM hunting carbine and a tourist knife, illegally deprived the young man of freedom and kept him for some time. While doing that, the defendant closed the door of his apartment from the inside and fired several shots inside the apartment to emphasize the threats made against the victim. After some time, the injured person took advantage of the moment when the defendant was distracted and escaped from the apartment to the yard of the above-mentioned house.

Continuing to stay in the apartment and acting with the aim of murdering citizens who were in the yard from molester motives, the defendant fired several shots from the Vepr-KM carbine at the people he saw there. In particular, he fired shots at the car, where a family of three people stayed, including a minor girl who suffered a gunshot wound. The child's life was saved due to the timely provision of medical care. During the special operation to detain the culprit, a Rosgvardiya officer was injured; he also received the required medical assistance.

Some time later on the same day, the defendant committed another episode of encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers, when three members of the special rapid response unit of the Rosgvardiya Department for Sverdlovsk Oblast, who took part in the operation to neutralize the shooter, arrived at the door of his apartment. In response to their demand to cease fire and leave the apartment, the man fired several shots from a carbine at the Rosgvardiya servicemen who were outside the door. The law enforcement officers were not injured. After the defendant refused to comply with the requirement to lay down arms, the Rosgvardiya officers initiated the decisive phase of the special operation, which successfully ended with seizing the defendant.

The crime associated with the deliberate destruction of someone else's property from molester motives, of which the defendant was accused, was expressed in the fact that 8 cars, as well as a building and a pavilion located on Borodina Street, were damaged as a result of multiple shots he fired. In total, the owners of the damaged property suffered over 1.5 million rubles of damage.

During the criminal case investigation, IC investigators have performed a significant amount of work aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the committed crimes, as well as collecting and consolidating the evidence base. A large number of witnesses were interrogated in the case; places of occurrence, items and documents were viewed; seizures were performed; and a complex of forensic tests was carried out, including medical, molecular and genetic, chemical, ballistic, and forensic ones. According to the performed psychological and psychiatric collegial examination, the defendant did not suffer from any mental conditions at the time of committing the acts incriminated to him, and does not suffer from any such conditions now.

By a court verdict, the accused was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
