The Chairman of the Investigative Committee Instructs Officials to Report on the Progress of the Investigation of the Criminal Case of Fraud Against a Woman, Who Was a Resident of Besieged Leningrad

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed M.G. Parastaeva, the acting head of the Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for St. Petersburg, to report on ongoing investigative actions in a criminal case of fraud against a resident of Kurortny Raion of St. Petersburg, who was a resident of besieged Leningrad (Part 3, Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Earlier, in connection with a media report aired by one of the channels about fraudulent actions against the elderly woman, the investigating authorities of the Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for St. Petersburg, instructed by the Chairman of the IC of Russia, initiated a criminal case. According to the investigation, in July 2021, fraudsters received information that the woman, who was born in 1937 and had been a resident of besieged Leningrad, had no close relatives and owned a house with a land plot located in Kurortny Raion; the attackers got hold of documents confirming her ownership, made a forged will and a purchase-and-sale agreement, according to which she sold the house with the land plot to another man. Then, under the false pretense, they made the victim sign the said forged documents. Subsequently, the attackers fraudulently carried out the state registration of the transfer of ownership of the house with the land plot worth at least 8,133,000 rubles.

The investigative authorities of the Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for St. Petersburg are taking measures to restore the rights of the elderly woman to her lost property, including assisting the victim in civil legal proceedings.

The investigation of the criminal case was put under control in the Central Office of the IC.
