The Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee instructed the Main Investigative Directorate to organize an inspection on the decision taken by the Republic of Latvia to destroy the monument to the Liberators of Riga and to report on its results.
Earlier, the Latvian authorities decided to demolish the monument to the Liberators of Riga. Despite the requests of Russia to transfer the monument and its parts to our country, the administration of Riga refused, and subsequently decided to destroy it.
Such actions can be directed against the interests of Russia in the field of preserving the historical memory of the USSR actions during the Second World War and its decisive role in the victory over fascism.
The Head of the Investigative Committee instructed the investigators to request the Russian Foreign Ministry for the necessary information to identify all circumstances of mentioned above.
