Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the General-Prosecutor’s Office and more than 40 experienced investigators and criminologists of the central office leaves to coordinate the work of the investigatory and operational team

Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the General-Prosecutor’s Office has left to coordinate the work of investigatory group of the Investigative Committee at the crash site of Tu-154 in the Smolensk region.

He also sent more than 40 experienced investigators and criminologists of the central office of the Investigative Committee from Moscow to the scene to provide practical assistance to the investigation.

The criminal case on the Polish President plane crash on April 10, 2010 on the outskirts of Pechorsk in the Smolensk region was opened for the crime under part 3, article 263 of the Criminal Code (violation of air transport safety rules, resulting in the death of two or more persons). The investigators are considering different versions of what had happened.

Currently, the investigatory team of the Investigative Committee is working at the scene. The team is composed of investigators and criminologists of Investigative Office of the Investigative Committee for the Smolensk region and the Moscow Investigative Office of Transport, as well as the central apparatus of the Investigative Committee. The scene examination is now being carried out.
