Level of health of Vladimir Akumenkov accused in mass riots on Bolotnaya Ploshchad does not prevent keeping him in custody

In the process of investigating a criminal case over organization and calls for mass riots and use of violence against representatives of the authority on 6 May on Bolotnaya Ploshchad in Moscow the Central Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee appointed a medical examination for Vladimir Akimenkov charged with a crime under part 2 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code (participation in mass riots).

Akimenkov was apprehended on 10 June 2012 and put into custody.

Investigators have got information that the accused suffers from a number of diseases, including those of eyes. Considering that neither Akimenkov nor his lawyers requested no examination, investigators initiated the examination to find out whether it was necessary to put Akimenkov into special medical facility.

In accordance with the medical conclusion “there is no negative dynamics of eye disease. The accused Akimenkov does not need in-patient treatment or additional medical examinations”. The diseases Akimenkov has are not included in the list of diseases preventing his custody, therefore, there are no grounds for changing the pre-trial restraining measure.
