St. Petersburg hosts Russian-German workshop: Features of revealing and investigating economic crimes

A Russian-German workshop: Features of revealing and investigating economic crimes, took place in Saint-Petersburg on 25 April 2014. The workshop was organized by the Russia’s Investigative Committee, General Consulate of Germany in Saint-Petersburg, Saint-Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee.

The workshop was attended by representatives of: international legal cooperation offices, special cases offices and procedural control offices of the Russia’s Investigative Committee; heads and employees of investigations directorates in the Northwestern Federal District, Saint-Petersburg and the Northwestern Transport Investigations Directorate; Saint-Petersburg Office of the Federal Tax Service; Customs and Justice Ministry of Germany, Consulate of Germany in Saint-Petersburg; Northwestern affiliate of Russian Law Academy of the Russian Justice Ministry and others.

At the workshop opening speeches were made by: General Consul of the General Consulate of Germany in the city of Saint-Petersburg Dr. Heike Peitsch, acting Head of International Legal Cooperation Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee O.Y. Mikhailov, acting Head of Saint-Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate M.G. Parastayeva, Senior Public Prosecutor of Stuttgart Public Prosecutor’s Office (Germany) Dr. Hans Richter, Deputy Head of Procedural Control Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee O.Y. Osipov, Head of Northwestern Transport Investigations Directorate A.V. Kvashnin and others. Film “About the Russia’s Investigative Committee” was demonstrated.

The participants of the workshop noted that consolidation of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Germany has a direct effect on the law enforcement activity in the two countries related to economic crimes. Exchange of experience between the specialists and its application in day-to-day practice is the main aim of such workshops. The workshop is a tool for all its participants to be used to improve expertise, consolidate ties and enhance efficient cooperation. 

In recent years the issues of economic crimes have become more urgent in both countries. The practical importance of the workshop is explained by the necessity to activate cooperation between law enforcement bodies of Russia and Germany in fighting economic crimes.
