Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee speaks at enlarged meeting of department of social science of Russian Academy of Sciences

Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee Mr. Alexander Bastrykin have spoken at enlarged meeting of department of social science of Russian Academy of Sciences dedicated to the problems of improving criminal policy and law enforcement practice concerning economic crimes. The meeting was chaired by Academician – Secretary of department of social science of Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Kokoshin.

In his report “Modern state and tendencies of criminal policy in Russian in the area of economy” Mr. Bastrykin considered the problems of validity and balance of criminal legislation in Russia concerning responsibility for economic crimes, issues of expansion in legal reasons for fines, calculated from the multiplication factor of the cost of the object of the crime, inclusion in criminal legislation in Russia institute of responsibility of legal persons. Mr. Bastrykin also paid attention to the necessity of improving the quality of scientific study of any changes made to criminal laws of the country, comprehensive record of criminal realities, priority development of system for preventing economic crimes.

The meeting of the department and the discussion of the report was attended by academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, advisor to the RF President on regional economic integration Sergey Glazyev, director of Institution of State and Law of Russian Academy of Sciences academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Lisitsyn-Svetlanov, director of Institution of legislation and Comparative Jurisprudence under RF government academician of Russian Academy of Sciences Talia Khabriyeva, first deputy director of Institution of State and Law of Russian Academy of Sciences, Ph. D. in law, professor Nikolai Mikhailov and others.

Participants of the discussion supported the main points of Mr. Bastrykin’s report and expressed their solidarity with the efforts made by the Russia’s Investigative Committee with the purpose of effective and just criminal prosecution of individuals, who had committed serious official or economic crimes and revealing of and taking measures to eliminate the causes and conditions in order to prevent such crimes in future.
