Criminal investigation launched in twin explosions in Dagestan

On 30 October 2013, at about 4:30 PM, in Dakhadayev Street in Makhachkala, unidentified men planted explosive devices in two shops selling alcohol and set them off shot time from each other and then fled the scene. The blast in one of the shops caused a fire.

According to preliminary information 18 people were injured by the explosions and 1 of them was killed. There are law enforcement agents among the injured. To commit the crime the perpetrators not long before that had stolen a VAZ-2114 from a local man. They used the car to drive up to the scene and then flee it. Later the car was found in one of the streets in Makhachkala.

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Dagestan have launched a criminal investigation into the signs of crimes under article 317 of the RF Penal Code (encroachment in the life of law enforcement agents), part 2 of article 105 (murder), part 3 of article 30, part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder of two or more people), part 1 of article 222 (illegal circulation of weapons), part 1 of article 223 (illegal manufacture of explosive device), part 2 of article 167 (deliberate damage of other’s property in a generally dangerous way), article 166 (misappropriation of a motor vehicle without intention of stealing it).

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
