Local woman charged with killing her daughter in Moscow

The investigating bodies of Moscow Main Investigations Directorate have charged Svetlana Kochkina with the crime under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of a small child).

According to investigators on 17 December 2013, Kochkina reported her daughter aged 1 year and 11 months missing to law enforcement bodies. She explained that she had left to do some shopping and left her children alone in the flat, but when she had come back the door had been open and the elder girl had been nowhere to be found. Investigators and criminologists immediately set off for the scene. They found traces of blood in the woman’s flat. During the questioning the mother confessed that the child had died, she was afraid of being held responsible for that and took the body to an empty place and then called the police.

The girl’s dead body has been found during search and investigating operation. The forensic medical experts have found that the child died of mechanic asphyxia. The woman admitted only part of the guilt, that is of not helping the child and concealing traces of the crime.

At present investigators are contemplating to place Kochkina in custody as a pre-trail restraint. They are also going to classify the actions of officials of custody and guardianship bodies, who failed to control properly the living conditions of the children in the problem family. The investigators have found that Kochkina is unemployed, abuses alcohol and did not care for her children properly. Moreover, according to the woman, she has been annulled of custody over her first child. Investigation is ongoing.
