Criminal case launched in wounding Russian journalist in Ukraine

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into the wounding of a stringer of video agency Russia Today RUPTLY Fyodor Zavaleykov as containing signs of crimes under part 3 of article 30, paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 105 and part 3 of article 144 of the RF Penal Code (attempted murder of a person due to their work, obstruction of lawful professional activity of a journalist aggravated by violence).

It has been preliminarily established that on 9 May Zavaleykov wearing a bulletproof jacket was photographing on Georgiyevskaya Street in Mariupol how Ukrainian forces were storming the Mariupol police building controlled by federalization supporters. The man tried to across the street, when he was shot in stomach. Then he was hospitalized and operated on. At present the wounded journalist is at a hospital in Moscow receiving necessary medical aid.

Investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime.
