In Rostov-on-Don two local residents awarded letters of commendation for helping to prevent especially serious crime against minor

On 22 May 2014, the Head of the Rostov Region Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee awarded two residents of the city of Rostov-on-Don Garik Osipov and Alexey Tkachenko letters of commendation for their assistance in preventing an especially serious crime against an underage girl.

On 8 May 2014, a 53-year-old homeless man dragged the girl in an abandoned building of day care facility from a sports ground in Mikhail Nagibin avenue in Rostov-on-Don. Wanting to make the girl stop resisting in order to rape her he tried to stab her with a fork, but missed and stabbed his own arm. The girl took advantage of the situation, broke away, ran up the window and called for help. Two passers-by answered the call, released the girl from the building, calmed her down, helped to dress and called the police. The perpetrator took fright and fled, but was caught the next day.

On behalf of all the personnel of the Investigations Directorate and of himself personally Yuri Popov expressed his gratitude to Garik Osipov and Alexey Tkachenko for the active civil attitude displayed and assistance in preventing an especially serious crime against the underage girl. The Head of the Investigations Directorate wished them sound health and wellbeing, stressing that their deed is an example of sympathy, humanity and decency.
