In Krasnodar Territory local resident found guilty of killing Cossack Chieftain and other crimes

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 39-year-old resident of Abinsk District Oleg Temchenko. He was found guilty of crime under part 1 of article 119 of the RF Penal Code (threat to kill), paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 105 (murder connected with the public duty discharged by the victim), part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a” and “b” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder of two or more people connected with the public duty discharged by the victims).

The investigators and court have found that in the evening of 7 March 2013 Temchenko came to an acquaintance of his, but she wasn’t at home. However, there was a woman’s 17-year-old son with a friend. On the phone the woman said that she had called the police, as she did not want the man to be on her property. Temchenko left, but was back in a few minutes and with a hunting rifle IZh-27. He took the woman’s son at the back of the house and demanded to call his mother so that she cancelled her call to the police. The man threatened to kill the teenager and fired the gun above his head and near his foot. Later a district police operative arrived to the woman’s house together with Cossack Chieftain Sergey Osminin and two Cossacks. When the ataman came to the gate, the man with the gun demanded not to go inside the property and shot at ataman’s head killing him. Them he wounded one of the Cossacks and tried to shoot at others. After the crime the perpetrator fled the scene, but was caught some time later.

During the investigation Temchenko was subject to a comprehensive psychiatric and psychological assessment, which concluded that he was sane.

Based on the guilty verdict of the jury, the court has sentenced Temchenko to 20 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony and 1.5 years of custodial restraint.
