In Moscow criminal investigation launched in gas explosion in block of flats on Kutuzovsky prospekt in Moscow

The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in crime under part 1 of article 216 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety rules during mining, construction or other work) after an explosion in a block of flats in Kutuzovsky prospekt.

According to investigators, an explosion happened in a 9-floor block of flats No 14, Kutuzovsky prospekt on 22 May 2014. The explosion triggered a fire and partially destroyed the building. According to initial information the reason might have been gas explosion. One injured, a USA national, was taken to hospital. The number of the injured is being specified.

At present investigators of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate are working at the scene to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
