In Crimea investigation launched in death of Russian Parliament member

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea have launched a criminal investigation into a crime under part 1 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide) after a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly died.

According to investigators, in the afternoon on 1 August 2014, in the town of Alushta a launch running along the shore of the Black Sea injured a man, who later died of the trauma. The man was identified as Vladimir Kulakov, member of Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly from the Magadan Region.

Investigating and search operations have found that the boat is owned by a sole proprietor. Alexei Dudka, 33, who steered the boat, has been detained.

An investigating team is working at the scene at the moment. Urgent investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime, namely, the investigators are confiscating documents regulating the activity of a private enterprise. The investigation is ongoing.
