Criminal investigation launched in gas explosion in Murmansk

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Murmansk Region have launched a criminal investigation in a gas explosion (part 1 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code – reckless homicide).

According to investigators, on 5 August 2014, between 5:30 and 6:30 AM a household gas explosion happened in a five-storey house on Alexander Nevsky street in the city of Murmansk. The explosion partly crashed 4th and 5th floors and destroyed 3 flats. According to preliminary reports a dead body of an elderly woman was found under the rubble. The body is being recovered from under the debris. A man was also injured and taken to hospital in grave condition.

The investigators and officials of criminalistics department of the regional office of the Investigative Committee are working at the scene. Initial investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident.
