Criminal case launched into death of child fallen out of window in Tyumen

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Tyumen Region have launched a criminal case against a resident of the Tyumen city. She is suspected of a crime under part 1 of article 109 of the RF Criminal Code (reckless homicide).

According to the investigators, on 13 August 2014, around 7:15 pm an 18-month-old boy fell out of a window on the 5th floor of the house, situated in Shishkov street in Tyumen. According to preliminary data, at the moment a mother of many children was in the kitchen, making breakfast while children were sleeping. The boy was lying in a room on the sofa near the window. He climbed the sill and fell out the window, which, as his mother said, the parents had forgotten to close. So the suspect hadn’t provided safety conditions for the child. After the fall the boy was hospitalized to the Regional hospital No 2, however the injuries were fatal and several hours later he died.

The investigators believe that the death of the child was a result of the suspect’s recklessness, who, although she could not foresee the socially dangerous impact of her actions, should have to and could have foreseen it if she had been cautious enough.

At the moment the investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The Investigative Committee is addressing all parents to keep a watchful eye on their children, not to leave them alone in the apartments with open windows. To secure their own children, parents must place the furniture in such a way that a child is not able to climb a windowsill or a brink of a non-glazed balcony and to take care of special latches, which won’t let a child open a window. Also don’t rely on fly screens, which produce a fake illusion of closed windows. These simple measures and parents’ constant vigilance will help to save a child’s life.
