Cache of weapons found in Vladikavkaz during gang-related investigation

The North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigating a criminal case against members of a criminal community (organization) headed by Aslan Gagiyev.

On 18 August 2014, during an on-site check of evidence, one of the suspects showed investigators to a garage located in a town in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, where the members of the gang had arranged a stash of firearms, munitions, explosive devices and balaclavas; uniforms of special forces; state registration numbers; movable radio stations. All the items confiscated were sent for analyses.

It was reported earlier that the criminal organization set up and led by Georgian national Aslan Gagiyev started operating in 2007 with over 30 members in it and was specializing in contract murders among other crimes. Its members on 26 November 2008 in the town of Vladikavkaz killed mayor of Vladikavkaz Vitaly Karayev, in March 2008 also in Vladikavkaz they killed Chief of Organized Crime Department of the Russian Ministry of the Interior for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Mark Matsayev. At the same town in December 2008 they killed North Ossetian PM Kazbek Pagiyev and his driver Vladimir Gasiyev. On 1 October 2008, again in Vladikavkaz they killed Head of Criminal Detection Department of the Russian Ministry of the Interior for North Ossetia-Alania Vitaly Cheldiyev and his son Zaurbek Cheldiyev, in October 2013 they killed deputy prosecutor for Promyshlenny district of Vladikavkaz Oleg Oziyev.

It should be mentioned that most of the members were killed few years ago. Five of the members are serving in jail. Leader of one of the gangs Oleg Gagiyev was sentenced to life in prison. A criminal case against two more members is being heard in court at present and there is an ongoing investigation against 13 more remanded in custody.

The investigators are checking if the detainees were involved in very serious crimes in the city of Moscow and Moscow Region including a conspicuous murder of head of a large finance and leasing company.

The law enforcement authorities have no doubts that the rest of the gang members, who are still at large but wanted internationally and federally, including their leader Aslan Gagiyev, will sooner or later face justice, it’s just a matter of time.
