Criminal case over murder of 3-year-old girl in Tomsk transferred to Central Office of Investigative Committee

Statements of the head of the Tomsk Region Investigations Directorate on the results of investigation in kidnapping and murder of a three-year-old girl in the city of Tomsk and subsequent publications about definite conclusions about guiltiness of a certain person are premature and may make the public think that “the murder was hastily pinned on a dead man to wrap up the case”.

Despite obvious progress of the investigation, suspects identified and solid evidence, it is too early to talk about guiltiness of the suspect, or all the more to state that the crime is solved. Moreover, today on the order of the Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee the criminal case has been transferred to the Central Office and was commissioned to one of the most experienced investigators of the Main Investigations Directorate. This demonstrates investigators’ serious intentions not only to identify all the responsible ones, carefully study all the reasons and conditions that made the crime possible, but to prosecute the staff of the kindergarten guilty of some serious dereliction of duty. The investigators are going to assess all actions or inaction of Tomsk senior officials, who are in charge of not only providing security of children, but creating and maintaining proper infrastructure to protect motherhood and childhood.
