In Sverdlovsk Region headmistress of school found guilty of negligence entailing death of girl after hockey goal fell onto her

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict the headmistress of school No 4 in the town of Kamensk-Uralsky. She was found guilty of a crime under part 2 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence entailing death of a person).

The court and investigators have revealed that in the afternoon of 28 May 2013, at around 1 PM, a girl born in 2005, a first-grader, together with her class-mates was at the school stadium in Lermontov Street in Kamensk-Uralsky. While the children were playing she grabbed the crossing of the hockey goal and hung on it. The goal fell on the girl and caused her a closed craniocerebral trauma, of which the girl died on the spot. The headmistress of the school performed her duty improperly and failed to ensure that there were no objects or constructions on the school premises that might pose a threat for the students. All that led to the tragedy.

The court has given the accused a 3-year suspended sentence. In addition, she was banned from occupying senior positions at schools.
