In Kostroma Region investigation launched in illegal manufacture and selling of unregistered drugs

Kostroma Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in illegal manufacture and selling of unregistered drugs committed on a large scale by an organized group (paragraph “a” of part 2 of article 238.1 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, in 2013, in the city of Kostroma a 55-year-old businessman illegally organized unauthorized manufacture of a medicine called Streptoblastolizin unregistered in the Russian Federation. The drug did not undergo any clinical tests so there was no evidence that it was safe, of good quality or efficient. The drug was manufactured and sold by members of the organized group – residents of Kostroma and Moscow involved in the criminal activity by the organizer. They posted the information on the drug in the internet.

During checking purchasing made in March-April 2015 by the officers of the Main Office for Economic Security and Corruption of the Ministry of the Interior in Moscow and of the Crime Detection Office for Kostroma Region confiscated 245 ampules of the unregistered drug worth 122 thousand 500 rubles. Later on the investigator during searches in non-residential buildings and flats of the defendants found and confiscated 100 more ampules of the drug, syringes presumably filled with the ingredients for the drug, labels, advertising price lists, accounting documents and stamps.

At present the organizer has been placed in custody pending trial. The investigators are identifying and questioning all the individuals involved in the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
