Investigative Committee holds solemn event dedicated to Victory Day

A solemn meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War has been held today in the Russia’s Investigative Committee.

The meeting was attended by former Prosecutor General of the USSR state councilor of justice Alexander Sukharev, investigation veterans Sergey Tyurin, Sergey Samoylov, Anatoly Ladychuk, relatives of employees of the Russia’s Investigative Committee killed in the line of duty, senior officials of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, members of the Investigative Committee Public Council, cadets and invited guests.

“World War II claimed 50 million lives, but those lives were lost not in vein – fascist regime ceased to exist in the most disgraceful way. During the Nuremberg trials, called “people’s trial”, in preparation of which our honored veteran of the Great Patriotic War and distinguished lawyer Mr. Alexander Sukharev took part, not only major military criminals, but their criminal intentions, theories and ideas against the world and humanity were condemned. Japanese military criminals were also prosecuted in Tokyo. The decisions of those military tribunals are of especial relevance today, when attempts to revise the results of World War II become more frequent, when some people seek to blame the kindling of the worldwide fire of war started by the fascist clique on the countries and peoples treacherously attacked by Hitler military machine and which took the heaviest casualties. Unfortunately, many western politicians “forget” what fascism brought into this world – blood and sufferings of millions of people. As a result we see that in the middle of economic confusion and impunity, the influence of neo-Nazi parties is getting stronger in Europe once again. In Ukraine nationalists openly propagandize the ideas of fascism destroyed 70 years ago and persecute Russian-speaking people in most barbaric way, they destroy monuments dedicated to war soldiers, who liberated the countries”, - the meeting noted.

Addressing the present, the Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee said that he had visited Vanya Voronov who had been seriously wounded during military actions in Ukraine. Mr. Bastrykin pointed out that “officers of the Investigative Committee have raised money to treat the boy. Tatarstan alone over 2 days raised 4 million rubles. Doctors of Leonid Roshal clinic saved the boy. Vanya joined our cadets school. And on 9 May he will see the Victory Parade on Red Square to hear the voice of our Great Victory”.

“We do understand how much should be done today to ensure that military criminals in Ukraine are prosecuted. We have put about 40 people on the international wanted list in absentia, starting with higher echelons and ending with commanders of battalions, companies, military pilots, that is everybody who not only give criminal orders but those who execute them as well”, - Mr. Bastrykin said.

Concluding his speech he addressed the guests: “I wish long years and eternal glory to our victors, everlasting glory to those who did not live to today, to workers of the home front, who gave everything they had to the front, to the Victory, and eternal glory to our fellows – officers of the Investigative Committee who were killed while executing their military and professional duty”.

First Vice-Chairman of the Investigative Committee Vasily Piskaryov remembering about the killed comrades, defenders of the Monterland, dead colleagues asked to hold a minute of silence to commemorate them all.

The veterans received warm congratulations from USSR people’s artist Vasily Lanovo, Vice-Chairman of the council of the regional NGO Union of Investigation Veterans Vladimir Dontsov and a cadet of Alexander Nevsky Cadet School.

The present saw a film about work of military investigators during the Great Patriotic War.

At the end of the meeting the veterans and guests of honor were awarded medals, got flowers and presents and there was a concert.
