Woman suspected of kidnapping guide dog from blind girl held in Moscow

The investigating bodies of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating kidnapping of a guide dog from a blind girl. The investigation was opened in a crime under part 1 of article 158 of the RF Penal Code (theft). Following a decision made by the prosecutor’s office the criminal case has been taken from the Ministry of the Interior and passed on to the Investigative Committee for further investigation due to the wide reaction the cynical crime got in the public.

On 29 July 2015, Yulia Dyakova together with her guide dog was walking near Profsoyuznaya metro station in Moscow. When Dyakova had felt a strong jerk of the leash, she started calling the dog, which did not react to her commands. Passers-by started gathering around the crying girl and told her that an unidentified woman had been seen with the dog near the metro.

The investigators and police have done a lot of work to find the dot. On 6 August 2015, the investigators gave the dog back to its owner.

The woman who presumably took the dog is now in detention. She is being interrogated to find out why she took the dog and find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
