The Leningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under paragraphs “g” and “i” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code after a murder of Russian Dmitry Ganin committed in the city of Tallinn, Estonia in 2007.

According to investigators, at night of 27 April 2007, there were mass riots caused by demolition of a the memorial to Soviet soldiers in the city of Tallinn, during which Dmitry Ganin had a fight with unidentified people. During the brawl the attackers stabbed Ganin with a knife and he died.

Nobody has been held or tried for the crime so far in Estonia.

In accordance with article 12 of the RF Penal Code foreign citizens and stateless people, who do not live permanently in the Russian Federation, who have committed a crime outside the Russian Federation are subject to prosecution in cases if the crime was directed against a citizen of the Russian Federation or if the citizens or stateless people have not been convicted in the foreign state.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime and identify the guilty ones.
