Alexander Bastrykin arrives at Yaroslavl in connection with probe into collapse of section of 5-floor apartment building

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin arrived today at Yaroslavl in connection with the investigation into the collapse of a section of a 5-floor apartment building in Frunzensky District of Yaroslavl that happened on 16 February 2016 and killed 7 people, including 2 children, and sent three more people into hospitals with injuries.

Mr. Bastrykin came to the scene and commemorated the killed by laying flowers to the site of the tragedy.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee ordered earlier that a criminal case opened into a crime under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (fulfillment of works or rendering of services that do not meet safety standards) should be passed on to the first department of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee for the fullest, impartial and quickest investigation. Following the Chairman’s instructions, investigators and criminalists of the Central Office who have experience in investigating similar incidents, have arrived at the scene and are conducting operations there.

Mr. Bastrykin has held a meeting with the investigative team and given a number of explicit instructions concerning the investigation.
