Experienced criminalists of the Investigative Committee’s Central Office join investigation in death of people in fire in Tomsk Region

The Tomsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of death by negligence to two or more people) following the death of 8 people, including 3 children in a fire in a single-family house in the settlement of Molchanovo, Molchanovo District.

According to the investigators, a fire started in a wooden single-family house at about 10 PM, 3 April 2016. Dead bodies of 7 people were found during fire suppression – three women aged 78, 52 and 23, two men aged 59 and 29and two children – a boy aged 10 and a girl aged 17. Another boy aged 16 died in the resuscitation unit of the hospital, where he had been delivered in an ambulance. All of the victims were related.

Experienced criminalists of the Criminalistics Directorate of the Investigative Committee have been sent from Moscow to Tomsk Region to help with the investigation. At present the team of investigators and criminalists of the regional office and the Central Office of the Investigative Committee are working at the fire scene. A number of forensic inquiries have been assigned, including medical forensic ones to find out the exact cause of death of the victims, and a fire technical one to find out the reason for the fire. The investigators are examining the scene and questioning the witnesses. The investigation is ongoing.
