In Chelyabinsk Region, probe launched into death of 13-year-old girl in summer camp

On 15 July 2016, a group of 11 children and two adults – a 35-year-old woman and 20-year-old man, from summer camp the Center of Youth Tourism and Excursions Kosmos were descending from a steep slope of the Zaozyorny Ridge in Chelyabinsk Region. While climbing down from a place not meant for it a 13-year-old girl feel down. She died of multiple injuries. The Chelyabinsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into the crime under Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties).

The investigators are going to assess the actions of the camp’s staff and other people responsible for organizing the trip. At present, necessary investigative operations are underway. The investigators are questioning managers of the camp and confiscating documents relevant for the investigation.

As revealed earlier, the teachers had not notified the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations about the trip.

The investigation is ongoing.
