The Kalmykia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation against Savr Chonayev suspected of a crime under Article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery).

According to investigators, head of Sarpinsky inter-district department of the regional investigative authority Savr Chonayev is involved in extortion of a bribe of 1 million rubles for not pressing more charges against the accused of a crime under Part 3 of Article 134 of the RF Penal Code (sexual intercourse with an individual under 16 years of age). The official was detained while taking part of a bribe of 400,000 rubles.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.

Unfortunately, this is not the first, and let’s face the truth no the last criminal case opened against our employees. As I have said before, the work to get the Investigative Committee clear of such individuals is ongoing. The senior officials of the Investigative Committee have never had any doubts about whether to open or not open a case against their staff if there are sufficient grounds to do so.
