A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Chelyabinsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 53-year-old resident of the town of Miass yuri Shuravin. He was found guilty of crimes under Part 3, item “a” of Article 131, Part 3, item “a” of Article 132 (rape and sexual abuse of a minor), Part 2, items “c” and “j” of Article 105 (murder), Part 2, item “c” of Article 158 of the RF Penal Code (larceny).
The court and investigators have established that a 17-year-old girl left home in Miass on 13 September 2015. Her relatives reported her missing and the police opened a murder investigation.
A lot of people were questioned, steps were taken to find taxi drivers whose routes went along the way the girl might have walked, footage from surveillance cameras and dashcams was seized. The suspect was detained during investigative and search operations conducted by the investigators and police. It was Yuri Shuravin, a fixed-run taxi driver.
On 13 September 2015, the girl took the taxi and Shuravin drove her to a deserted place. There he raped her, strangled and stole her cell phone, earrings and a ring. He then threw the body in a ravine and covered it with branches.
The court has sentenced Shuravin to 23 years in a maximum-security correctional facility and 1 million 105 thousand rubles in damages. The investigators field requests with the head of the Miass Police Department and the head of the transport organization that had employed the accused so that they eliminated the reasons that had contributed to the crime.
