In Dagestan, probe launched in mass water poisoning

The Dagestan Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in a crime under part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (providing unsafe services) following mass poisoning of residents of the city of Makhachkala.

According to investigators, from 26 to 28 October 2016, more than 100 residents of the city, over 70 of whom are children, were taken to the Republican Infectious Diseases Center with acute enteric infection. A preliminary reason is contaminated water fed to houses via water supply systems.

At present, a set of investigative operations is underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident and to identify all the guilty ones, including officials. Employees and experts of the Dagestan Office of Rospotrebnadzor (the federal consumer rights protection authority) and sanitary safety specialists are taking part in the inquiry.

The investigation is ongoing.
