In Smolensk Region, Investigative Committee launches check into improper medical services provided to girl who died in hospital

The Smolensk Region Office of the Investigative Committee is carrying out a preliminary check into provision of improper medical aid to an 11-year-old girl who died on 15 October 2016 in hospital No 1.

It is known that on 12 October 2016, the girl complained to her parents about a stomachache and high temperature. In a hospital the girl was examined by a surgeon who said that it was not appendicitis and sent her back home.

On 15 October 2016, the girl again complained about the same symptoms. An ambulance took her to hospital No 1 where she died several hours later.

According to preliminary version the girl died on peritonitis.

At present investigators are looking into all the circumstances of the death, questioning witnesses, and running a forensic medical inquiry which will give the exact cause of death.

A procedural decision will be made following the check and the investigators are going to assess the actions of medical personnel.

A request has been sent to the Smolensk Region Health Department to carry out a check into the incident.
