Probe launched in negligence of officials at Kamchatka Territory Children’s Hospital

The Kamchatka Territory Office of the RF Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against officials of the Kamchatka Territory Children’s Hospital, a state-funded healthcare institution, suspected of a crime under Part 1 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence).

According to investigators, from September 2012 to February 2013, officials of the hospital failed to provide it with enough employees due to their negligent and careless attitude to the work.

With lack of qualified ophthalmologists and with no such doctors in the children’s hospital, a small boy, born in 2012, did not get necessary medical attention from an ophthalmologist which led to the development of undiagnosed disease and later to the complete loss of eyesight.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident, while investigators are taking steps to identify officials involved in the crime.
