In Ulyanovsk Region, local resident charged with assaulting and killing teenage girl

The Ulyanovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation against a 33-year-old local resident charged with crimes under Part 2, item “j” of Article 105 (murder), Part 4, item “b” of Article 131 (rape) and Part 4, item “b” of Article 132 of the RF Penal Code (sexual abuse).

According to investigators, on 19 April 2019, the drunk accused met a 13-year-old girl on the bank of the Syzranka River in the settlement of Novopassky, Ulyanovsk Region. He attacked the girl when she was talking on her cell phone to her mother on her way home from school. He dragged the teenager to the nearby bushes and raped her. In order to conceal the crime the man hit her multiple times on the head and torso and then strangled. According a forensic medical expert the girl died of mechanical asphyxiation caused by strangulation.

The girl had told her mother on the phone that she was being attacked. The mother called her neighbors and relatives for help. Local residents started searching for her daughter and held the accused not far from the crime scene. They then handed him over to the police.

The investigators checked the man and revealed that he had been convicted of robbery and gotten a suspended sentence. He committed the crime while this previous conviction was not expunged.

The investigators did a lot to solve the crime: they ran 9 forensic inquiries, including psychiatric and sexological ones. They questioned more than 50 witnesses while girl’s relatives were recognized the injured party.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case has been sent for the indictment to be signed and the n will be referred to court.
