In Novosibirsk Region, local resident found guilty of killing four women and gets life

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Novosibirsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Alexey Ivanov, 40. He was found guilty of four counts of murder under Part 2, item “a” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have established that the dead body of a 31-year-old woman was found on 16 July 2015 in Moshkovo District, Novosibirsk Region. The regional investigative authority opened a murder investigation. The investigators ran a DNA examination of the victim’s clothes to find the DNA of the perpetrator and check it on the database. A 28-year-old woman was reported missing on 16 October 2015 in Kalininsky District of the city of Novosibirsk. The suspect was identified and detained. It was a 40-year-old local taxi-driver, who had multiple previous convictions.

The investigators matched the suspect’s DNA with that taken from the victim found in Moshkovo District. Under the load of evidence and as a result of efficient investigative operations the man confessed to the crimes and to two more murders. The investigators and criminalists did complex and meticulous work to prove that the suspect had been involved in a series of murders. The man was charged with 4 murders of women committed from May to October 2015.

A comprehensive psychiatric and sexologic evaluation found out that the man was suffering from a sexual disorder preferring serial sexual murders. According to experts the said inclination determined the pattern of the murders, that is the negative attitude to the people of opposite sex based on sexuality, creation of a certain “scenario” when he looked for and picked his victims based on their jobs and lifestyles. The murderer had chosen women he believed tended to promiscuity, alcohol and drug abuse which made him feel aversion to them.

The court has sentenced Ivanov to a life imprisonment in a special-security correctional facility.
