The Altai Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in a crime under Part 2 of Article 216 of the RF Penal Code (violation of mining safety entailing death of a person by negligence) after the death of a 26-year-old worker of Zarechensky mine operated by OAO Siberia – polimetally.

According to investigators, on 17 December, two workers of Zarechensky mine went down to the pit. A sudden rockslide occurred at about 12:10 AM, 18 December 2016. One of the workers was pressed down by a bracing. The man was severely injured and died on scene. His partner was not injured and was able to get out.

At present, the investigators continue examining the incident scene – the pit of Zarechensky mine. A forensic medical examination is going to be run. The investigators are going to give legal assessment of the actions of people responsible for safety during mining. The investigation is ongoing.
