Suspect of major crime committed in 2012 against small girl arrested in Perm

The Perm Territory Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation opened on 7 July 2012 in sexual abuse of a person under 14 years of age under Part 4, item “b” of Article 132 of the RF Penal Code.

Investigators have established that on late evening of 6 July 2012, an unidentified man sexually abused a small girl in the entrance hall of a block of flats in Dzerzhinsky District of the city of Perm.

A perpetrator’s sketch was made following the description given by the victim. The crime scene and the girl’s clothes were examined using advanced forensic equipment. A number of forensic inquiries were assigned. According to the conclusion of a DNA test, biological traces found on the girl’s clothes might belong to a male. The operations to identify the perpetrator have never been stopped and all these years have been controlled by senior officials of the regional investigative authority. The investigators, police operatives and experts have done a lot of work to solve the crime. DNA of more than a thousand men was cross-matched. The suspect is a 34-year-old resident of Perm. He was wanted for the crime.

On 20 December 2016, the man was detained. A court ruled to take him in custody pending trial. He will be charged soon.

At present a number of investigative operations are underway to collect and document the evidence.

The investigation is ongoing. During the investigation the man will be checked on involvement in other similar crimes.
