Investigative Committee continues looking into Tu-154 crash

The Military Directorate of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation in a crash of a military plane in the Black Sea.

The exact place where the Tupolev Tu-154 plane crashed has been located in the past 24 hours. Now the sea bottom around it is being examined by underwater equipment. A floating crane has pulled from water fragments of the fuselage, engine and an airborne recorder which has been delivered to Moscow for decoding. Several thousand victim’s items of clothes, personal belongings and documents have been examined, photographed and packed.

The specialists have thoroughly examined the area between the airfield of the Sochi international airport and the shoreline following the trajectory of the flight and made rounds of the nearby houses and flats to find eyewitnesses of the crash.

New eyewitnesses have been identified and questioned, including a man who caught on his camera the take-off, flight and crash of the plane. Apart from that video, the investigators have also confiscated the videos of the Tu-154 landing at the Sochi international airport, its taxiing to the stationing and its passengers going through customs control.

Samples of fuel taken from the fuel servicing truck which refueled the plane, have been sent for inquiries. Dozens of forensic medical, DNA and other tests have been assigned.

Bodies that were not identified have been sent to the Forensic Medical Expert Examination Bureau of the Moscow Public Health Department.

More than 90 people have been recognized injured parties. The lists of people onboard the crashed plane have been sent to the RF Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Federal labor and Occupation Service to start paying social and insurance payouts.

Other procedural and investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
