In Sverdlovsk Region, probe launched after report on woman injured by icicles fallen from house roof

Police received a report on the afternoon of 17 January 2017, that icicles fell on a pregnant woman passing by a building in Shmidt street in the city of Yekaterinburg.

To find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in execution of work that did not meet safety standards under part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code.

An investigator is now looking into the case. A forensic medical examination is planned to be run to find out the gravity of the harm done to the injured woman. Interrogations and analysis of relevant documents will help to identify people responsible for the operation of the building, as well as how timely and efficiently they did their job to prevent snow and icicles from falling from the building. The investigation is ongoing.
