In Sverdlovsk Region, probe launched into possible attempted murder of girl

On the night of 14 January 2017, police got a report that violence was being used against a 2-year-old girl on the balcony of a flat on the 5th floor of a house in Zavodskaya Street in the city of Yekaterinburg. According to the information available, there was a real threat to the child’s life as the balcony was located high above the ground and she might have fallen from it.

Considering the data established during a check and which indicate that there was a crime, and in order to thoroughly check all the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in an attempted murder under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 2, item “c” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, at the moment of the said events, there were two women in the flat – the girl’s mother and her sister. A forensic medical examination was ordered to find if the girl has any injuries.

The investigators are going to look in the circumstances surrounding the incident in the most careful way and are going to identify the person involved in a crime committed against the child. The family members, witnesses and other people are being questioned. Character evidence has been requested and is now being analyzed. The investigators are checking the family’s living conditions and the way they raised their children.

The investigators are going to find out all the reasons and conditions that contributed to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
